99 | Frerotte to Berrian marks just 11th tandem to hook up for record TD play

12/01/2008

Moments after the Minnesota Vikings defense’s goal line stand that stopped the Chicago Bears on 4th-and-one, the Vikings offense added their name to the record book. Quarterback Gus Frerotte found a wide open Bernard Berrian for a 99-yard touchdown pass. It gave the Vikings a lead they did not relinquish. It also marked just the 11th time in NFL history that a 99-yard TD pass has been completed.

Frerrotte’s pass to the Berrian broke the long standing team mark of 89 yards. Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton completed that pass to Charley Ferguson on Nov. 11, 1962 against the Bears in Chicago.

Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett of the Dallas Cowboys is the only player ever to have a 99-yard run when he accomplished the feat against the Vikings on January 3, 1983.
