500 Club

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is one of 15 QBs in NFL history to throw for 500 yards in a game and the only one to accomplish this feat twice. Roethlisberger completed 40 of his 49 passes for a career-high 522 yards and six touchdowns in his team’s 51-34 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8 of the 2014 NFL Season. His first 500-yard day came against the Green Bay Packers late in the 2009 season.

This also marked the sixth time a quarterback has thrown for 500 yards and five or more touchdowns in a game. The only others to do so were Norm Van Brocklin, Y.A. Tittle, Matthew Stafford, Matt Schaub and Tony Romo.

Former Los Angeles Rams great and Hall of Famer Norm Van Brocklin’s 554 yards in the 1951 season opener remains the most passing yards ever in a NFL game.

I was at the game when Big Ben went over 500, and would dare say that his achievement was the most dramatic of all of these; he went over the mark with a game-winning touchdown pass for the Steelers with :00 left on the clock, as WR Mike Wallace made a tip-toe catch with the ball actually over the out-of-bounds line in the near corner of the end zone. Another great finish of many for #7 in the black and gold...
