Terrell Davis - Running Wild in '98

Broncos RB joined Jim Brown, O.J. Simpson in rushing for 1,000 yards in 7 games

The jersey worn by Terrell Davis on October 25, 1998 is part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's collection.

Terrell Davis, a sixth-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in 1995,  increased his season rushing yardage in each of his first four pro seasons. After rushing for 1,117 yards as a rookie, he gained 1,538 yards during his second season and 1,750 yards in this third year.

In 1998, he "broke the bank", as he became just the fourth player in history to eclipse the 2,000-yard barrier. Davis finished the season with a total of 2,008 yards rushing. Along the way he supplied much excitement for NFL fans, especially those in the Mile-High city.

On October 25, 1998, he rushed for 136 yards in the Broncos' 37-24 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. His performance broke the Jaguars'' NFL-best streak of 18 regular-season games of not allowing a 100-yard rusher. Aside from that, his third touchdown of the game, a 37-yard run, put the finishing touches on the Broncos'' win.

More significant, however, is that his yardage output allowed him to become just the third player in NFL history to reach the 1,000-yard mark in seven games. In doing so, Davis put his name alongside two Hall of Fame running backs, Jim Brown (1958) and O.J. Simpson (1973 and 1975) as the only runners to reach the 1000-yard milestone in seven games.

The trio remains the only runners ever to accomplish this feat.  Here's a comparative glance at the seven-game history-making performances of Brown, Simpson and Davis.
