Lane Kiffin (left) became the youngest head coach of the NFL's modern era when the Oakland Raiders selected him to guide the team on January 23, 2007.
At age 31 years, 8 months, Kiffin is three months younger than Harland Svare who earned his first coaching job with the Los Angeles Rams in 1962. In 3 1/2 seasons, Svare compiled a 14-31-3 record with Los Angeles. He later served as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers from 1971 to 1973.
