Cris Carter's helmet

In 1994, the National Football League celebrated its 75th Anniversary. During the yearlong celebration, much attention was placed on the storied history of a league that got its start in an automobile showroom in Canton, Ohio in 1920.

Meanwhile, on the field, veteran wide receiver Cris Carter of the Minnesota Vikings was meticulously rewriting the record book. By season's end, Carter had shattered the previous record of 112 receptions in a season originally set by Sterling Sharpe of the Green Bay Packers in 1993 and duplicated by the San Francisco 49ers' Jerry Rice a year later. Carter finished the '94 season with 122 catches for 1,256 yards and 7 touchdowns.
