Amateur photographer wins trip to HOF Weekend

The winning image depicts Richard's seventh-grade son Matthew, 13, in mid-air reaching for the end zone. The photo was taken on September 12, 2005 during a United Local Eagles game in Hanoverton, Ohio.

The contest was open to amateur photographers only. Photos taken of youth football (Pop Warner through high school) were eligible for submission to the contest.

The contest, which had two categories - action and feature, ran from September 1 through December 9, 2005. Richards' entry was the first place winner in the action category. The first place winner in the feature category was Maria Gamble of Flanders, New Jersey for her photo titled "Playing in the Rain." The grand prize winner was then selected from the two first place winners.

Judging for the contest was conducted on December 15 by a panel of prominent photographers. The judges included Mark Duncan, Associated Press Craig Melvin, US PRESSWIRE; Peter Read Miller, Sports Illustrated/Canon; John Reid III, team photographer, Cleveland Browns; and Tony Tomsic, freelance photographer.

As the grand prize winner, Richards is the recipient of a trip for four to Super Bowl XL in Detroit, and the 2006 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Celebration, along with various other prizes from Canon and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
