The award-winning Paolantonio provides a week-by-week look behind the scenes of the Eagles’ magical 2017 season capped by the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship. His exclusive access to the journey will entertain all football fans. Paolantonio was the only reporter allowed into the Eagles team hotel at Super Bowl LII. He is also the only journalist to ride with Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson to the game. In addition, Paolantonio was granted special access to the team on their historic, star-crossed trip to the West Coast during the season.

“Philly Special: The Inside Story of How the Philadelphia Eagles Won Their First Super Bowl Championship” contains in-depth reporting and details on every game of the team’s championship season including one-on-one interviews with Pederson on the eve and morning of the Eagles’ biggest games including Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis.

Paolantonio, who has covered the NFL and the Eagles for a quarter century, brings his unique style to describe the Eagles’ unimaginable season. The book offers readers a glimpse into the year that defied critics and oddsmakers. His storytelling was enhanced through inside access to Pederson, quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Nick Foles, and the rest of the Eagles organization.

Fascinating accounts of the Eagles run in 2017 include an inside look of what happened behind closed doors of the Eagles locker room after Wentz suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14. The book also provides readers insight into how the team rebounded from the devastating news of losing their quarterback.

Highlighted in the book is the famous “Philly Special,” that ranks among the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history and was a key component of the Eagles’ 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots this past February. Paolantonio shares details about who invented the “Philly Special” and how Pederson decided to use the trick play that resulted in a touchdown catch by Foles against the Patriots.
