Much focus has been placed on how the National Football League has become a passing game as 400-yard aerial attacks by quarterbacks and 200-yard receiving games by receivers seemingly occur every week. However, the fact remains that ten of the 32 NFL team’s single-game rushing marks have fallen in the past five seasons.

The latest record-setting day came during Week 14 when LeSean McCoy set the Philadelphia Eagles single-game rushing record. The Eagles mark had been the longest standing of the current 32 teams and dated back to the 1949 season when Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren rumbled for 205 yards. McCoy became the third player in Eagles history to eclipse 200 yards rushing. The other Eagles runner to reach the milestone was Duce Staley who gained 201 yards in a game against the Dallas Cowboys in 2000.

McCoy ignored the heavy snowfall at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday and racked up 217 yards on 29 carries that included two long touchdown runs (57 and 40 yards). His offensive performance helped lead the Eagles to an important 34-20 win over the Detroit Lions.

The chart below lists the players who hold the single-game rushing yard record for each of the current NFL franchises.
