NFL Power Rankings Week 6

 

And just like that, there are only two undefeated teams left in the league.

Week 5 of the 2019 season saw the New England Patriots continue their dominance across the AFC, while the NFC remains a toss up among the top teams in each division.

The Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys both moved out of the Top 5 this week following losses, leaving room for one of the biggest shakeups in the Power Rankings since the start of the season.

But as injuries start to pile up and playoff implications start to get closer, expect more and more movement as the season progresses.

Here are your official Power Rankings for Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season.

Week 6 Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots (5-0)

Week 6 Opponent: vs New York Giants (2-3)

Adaptability is one of the key components of a truly great team and especially a Super Bowl contender. Unsurprisingly, adaptability is also one of the key qualities found with the New England Patriots.

Even as an undefeated side, there was cause for concern with the Patriots heading into their 33-7 win over Washington on Sunday. Longtime kicker and all-time Patriots points leader Stephen Gostkowski was placed on the IR with a hip injury and the offensive line was the most banged up its been during Belichick’s tenure.

But a truly great team adapts over the long term and the short term. After an unimpressive first half in DC that saw Tom Brady throw the ball 31 times, the Patriots shifted offensive and used the running game to power through 21 unanswered points in the final two quarters.

While it wasn’t his best effort, Tom Brady added another accolade to his resume in the win, passing Brett Favre for third all-time on the career passing yards list (71,923 yards).

2. New Orleans Saints (4-1)

Week 6 Opponent: at Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3)

Don’t tell Teddy Bridgewater that he’s a backup.

The Saints second option behind center has been more than steady for New Orleans while Drew Brees heals from a thumb injury. In the Saints 31-24 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, Bridgewater threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns on 26-for-34 passing — marking his first game passing above 300 yards since 2015.

Losing your starting quarterback is never an easy pill to swallow, but the Saints have weathered the storm and have stayed unbeaten in Bridgewater starts.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)

Week 6 Opponent: vs. Houston Texans (3-2)

It took five weeks, but Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs finally fell back down to earth.

And if the 19-13 home loss to the Colts wasn’t bad enough, Mahomes left the game limping on a lame left ankle. While the injury has yet to be diagnosed, it does bring cause for concern for a quarterback who uses his ability to scramble inside and outside of the pocket better than anyone in the league.

But the loss also highlighted some problem areas that Andy Reid will have to address rather quickly. Kansas City’s offensive line was dominated by the Colts defensive front as Indianapolis held Chiefs running back Damien Williams to a mediocre 23 yards on nine carries.

After four weeks, the absence of Tyreek Hill is finally starting to be felt. While Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman filled the gap for a couple of games, they can’t replace the production of one of the league’s most dangerous receivers.

4. Green Bay Packers (4-1)

Week 6 Opponent: vs. Detroit Lions (2-1-1)

This Green Bay Packers team may be the real deal thanks to the Aaron-Aaron connection.

We all know about Aaron Rodgers’ ability behind center, but if running back Aaron Jones can keep is production up, these Packers are a legitimate threat to come out of the NFC. Jones went wild in Green Bay’s 34-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, rushing for four touchdowns and 107 yards on 19 carries.

The performance wasn’t perfect, though. The Packers almost let a 31-3 lead slip as Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense started moving the ball in the fourth quarter. But the Green Bay defense held on and its three interceptions off Prescott proved enough to secure a huge road victory to shoot them up our rankings.

5. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)

Week 6 Opponent: at Los Angeles Rams (3-2)

Raise your hand if you expected the 49ers to be one of the last two undefeated teams in the NFL?

Nobody? That’s okay.

San Francisco came its Week 4 bye looking stronger than ever, trouncing the Browns 31-3 to stay unbeaten in the early stages of the season. The 49ers look like serious contenders to come out of the NFC West with an established run game and the second-best scoring defense in the league led by Richard Sherman and Nick Bosa.
