VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce produce 18 major events between May 7th and August 9th, 2020. These events rely on 5,000 community volunteers to support them.  Volunteer opportunities range from behind the scenes planning and production to working directly with the Enshrinees and Gold Jackets as Canton hosts hundreds of thousands of guests into our city.

General Information

         To help you better understand the descriptions, these terms have the following meaning:

  1. “Hall of Famer.”  The term “Hall of Famer” refers to all of the 346 men who have been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  This includes the Class of 2020.
     
  2.  “Gold Jacket.”  The term “Gold Jacket” refers to the 189 living Hall of Famers who have received a Gold Jacket (including the Class of 2020).  Last year, over 130 Gold Jackets returned to Canton to participate in Enshrinement events.
     
  3. “Enshrinee,” “Enshrinement Class,” or “Class of 2020.” This refers to the twenty men who will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.  They are:  Steve Atwater, Issac Bruce, Harold Carmichael, Jim Covert, Bill Cowher, Bobby Dillon, Cliff Harris, Winston Hill, Steve Hutchinson, Edgerrin James, Jimmy Johnson, Alex Karras, Troy Polamalu, Steve Sabol, Donnie Shell, Duke Slater, Mac Speedie, Ed Sprinkle, Paul Tagliabue and George Young.
     
  4. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival including Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls” refers to all the events celebrating the Enshrinement of the Class of 2020 starting with the Queen & Royal Ambassadors Pageant on May 7th and concluding with the Concert for Legends on Sunday, August 9th.
     
  5. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls” refers to all the events celebrating the Enshrinement of the Class of 2020 Wednesday August 5th through Sunday August 9th, highlighted by the Hall of Fame Game, Enshrinement Ceremony and the Concert for Legends.
     
  6. Event Locations:   The events associated with the enshrinement of the Class of 2020 are spread throughout Stark County.  For reference purposes, the locations are:
  • Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village: 2121 George Halas Drive, NW, Canton, Ohio 44708.  This includes the Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum, Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and surrounding property making up the Pro Football Hall of Fame Campus.
     
  • Canton Memorial Civic Center:  1101 Market Avenue North, Canton, Ohio  44702.
     
  • Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College campuses:  Frank Avenue, Canton, Ohio  44720.  Can be accessed off Frank or Dressler Avenue.
     
  • InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field:  375 E. Exchange Street, Akron, Ohio  44304.
  • First Play Route: Includes a 2.5-mile route from the former site of the Hupmobile auto showroom in downtown Canton (where the NFL was founded), through the Canton Parks to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
     
  • Community Parade:  Includes a one-mile route on Market Avenue, starting at 11th Street North and traveling south to 3rd Street.
  • Canton Repository Grand Parade Route.  Includes a 2.2-mile route on Cleveland Avenue, starting at the AEP building at 4th Street South and traveling north to 25th Street.

 

VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES

APPRECIATION PARTY (CRCC)

Volunteers provide on-site support for the annual Volunteer and Sponsor Recognition Party held at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.  This includes: assist with set-up, tear down, beverage, snack and ice cream stations, clear tables and trash, check tickets and IDs, and other hospitality duties.  Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.


AUTOGRAPH (HOF) 

Volunteers assist fans and Gold Jackets during the Pro Football Hall of Fame Autograph Sessions on August 6th and 8th at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village.  These volunteers must have an outgoing personality who enjoy interactions with the public and must be able to stand during their entire shift.


BALLOON CLASSIC (CRCC)               

Volunteers assist with vendors, entertainment, beverage service, and pilot hospitality during the Balloon Classic on July 31st, August 1st and 2nd at Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College campuses.  This committee also assists in event set-up and teardown. 


UP, UP & AWAY 5K (CRCC)

Volunteers assist with this Walk/Race on Saturday, August 1st at the Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College campuses.  Volunteers must be able to stand for long periods of time to assist with packet pick-up, start and finish-line duties, water stops, awards ceremony, beverage service, and on-course safety/security.   


COMMUNICATIONS (CRCC)

Volunteers work behind the scenes to facilitate radio communications at every Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce event between July 26th and August 9th.  Volunteers must be able to volunteer at more than one event. 


COMMUNITY PARADE (CRCC)

Volunteers assist the Community Parade on July 26th by helping check-in units, serve as parade route marshal, assist in staging or demarshaling areas.  Volunteers must be able to stand in outside elements during entire shift.


CONCERT FOR LEGENDS (HOF)

Volunteers assist guests sitting on the floor of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium attending the Concert for Legends on August 9th.  Volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public and be able to stand in outside elements during entire shift as they greet fans, check floor tickets, affix wristbands and assist guests with seating. 


CORPORATE HOST (HOF)

Volunteers drive official HOF vehicles to transport VIP’s to all Pro Football Hall of Fame events, providing VIP treatment, from August 6th – 9th.  Volunteers must be at least 25 years old, have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and pass a background check. 


DRUM CORPS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION (CRCC)

Volunteers assist guests that attend the Drum Corps Competition at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field on August 3rd.  This committee assists with public parking, greets patrons and collect tickets, monitors handicapped seating, and helps with passenger services (golf cart transportation for patrons).   


ENSHRINEES’ GOLD JACKET DINNER (CRCC)

Volunteers assist guests that attend the Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on August 7th.  These volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public as they act as hosts/hostesses to greet and direct patrons, assist with beverage placement at each place setting, and help sell commemorative steins at the conclusion of the event. 


ENSHRINEES’ ROUNDTABLE (CRCC)

Volunteers assist guests that attend the Enshrinees’ Roundtable at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on August 9th.  These volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public as they act as hosts/hostesses to greet and direct patrons, assist with beverage placement at each place setting, and help sell commemorative “fotoballs” at the conclusion of the event. 


ENSHRINEMENT CEREMONY (HOF)

Volunteers assist guests sitting on the floor of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium attending the Enshrinement Ceremony on August 8th. Volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public and be able to stand in outside elements during entire shift as they greet fans, check floor tickets, affix wristbands and assist guests with seating. 


FAN EXPERIENCE PARTY (HOF)

Volunteers assist guests attending the Fan Experience Parties at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village on August 6th, 8th and 9th.  Volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public as they are checking tickets and affixing wristbands, bartending, distributing souvenirs and escorting guests to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.


FASHION SHOW LUNCHEON (CRCC)

Volunteers assist guests attending the Fashion Show Luncheon at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on August 7th.  These volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public as they act as Hostesses to greet and direct patrons and assist with placing programs and gift bags at each place setting. 


FIRST PLAY/AMBASSADOR (HOF)

Volunteers coordinate and assist in assembling up to 4000 children along a 2.5-mile route to pass a football from downtown Canton through the Canton Park to the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village on August 5th.  They also assist with the Play Football skills camp at Don Scott Field on August 5th.  These volunteers also escort Gold Jackets to community outreach programs on August 7th.  


FOOD (CRCC)

Volunteers work in collaboration with caterers and hostesses (as maître d’s or committee volunteers) to assure successful meal service for all guests at Fashion Show Luncheon and Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner on August 7th and the Enshrinees’ Roundtable on August 9th, all of which are at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.


FUN FEST (HOF)

Volunteers will assist guests attending the free Fun Fest & Beer Fest located on the Pro Football Hall of Fame grounds in front of the museum on August 6th – 9th.  Duties include pouring and serving beer to guests in the Beer Gardens and distributing a Class of 2020 collectable, limited-edition beer stein.  Volunteers should enjoy interacting with the public, must be able to stand during their entire shift and be at least 19 years old. 


THE CANTON REPOSITORY GRAND PARADE (CRCC)

Volunteers assist the Canton Repository Grand Parade on August 8th by helping with parade seat set-up, serve as parade route marshals, assist in staging or demarshaling areas.  Volunteers must be able to stand in outside elements during entire shift.


GUEST SERVICES (HOF)

Volunteers staff the Visitor Information Tents August 6th through August 9th at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village and the Stark County Fairgrounds.  These volunteers answer questions and provide guests with information concerning all of the week’s events and general community information.  They also act as greeters to welcome guests to Canton at the Akron Canton Airport.


HALL OF FAME GAME (HOF)

Volunteers assist in the production and staging of all pregame and halftime elements during the Hall of Fame Game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on August 6th.    


HOSTESS (HOF)

Volunteers escort and assist the Class of 2020 Enshrinees and Presenters for all events and duties while in Canton August 6th through August 9th.  They also provide assistance to all returning Gold Jackets and their wives while in Canton. 


HOTEL AMBASSADORS (HOF)

Volunteers staff the Hotel Information Tables August 6th through August 9th at area hotels where Enshrinees Friends and Families are staying.  These outgoing and friendly volunteers assist with times and locations of specific bus travel information for all events and some also act as hosts on the bus transporting them to all events. 


QUEEN AND ROYAL AMBASSADORS PAGEANT (CRCC)

Volunteers serve as the liaison/chaperone to the Queen and Royal Ambassadors at their community service projects and official Enshrinement Festival events from May through August.  These volunteers must be at least 25 years old and females are preferred.


SECURITY (HOF)

Volunteers provide crowd control and assist in flow of crowds for all events at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village August 5th through August 9th.  They also provide security for Enshrinees and Gold Jackets at their hotel.  This committee requires individuals with an outgoing personality who enjoys dealing with the public, but can be insistent and firm when necessary, always using good judgment. 


SECURITY & LOGISTICS (CRCC)

Volunteers provide crowd control and assist in flow of crowds for all events at the Canton Memorial Civic Center, the Balloon Classic, both parades and the Drum Corps Competition.  These volunteers must have an outgoing personality who enjoys dealing with the public, but can be insistent and firm when necessary, always using good judgment.  The various indoor and outdoor events run from July 26th through August 9th.


SOUVENIRS (CRCC)

Volunteers sell commemorative, official souvenirs at a variety of indoor and outdoor events held July 26th through August 9th.  Dealing with the public and being able to lift boxes of merchandise are a plus. 


SPECIAL SERVICES (CRCC)

Volunteers provide support to event committees in areas of hospitality, sponsor and guest check-in and registration at a variety of indoor and outdoor events sponsored by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce held July 26th through August 9th.


STAGING (CRCC)

Volunteers assist in the set-up and tear down of the events at the Canton Memorial Civic Center (Fashion Show Luncheon, Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner, and Enshrinees’ Roundtable) during the week of August 3rd through August 9th.


TRANSPORTATION (HOF)

Volunteers drive the 2020 Enshrinement Class, their Presenters and Gold Jackets in Official HOF cars to and from all events during Enshrinement Week Powered by Johnson Controls (August 6th through August 9th).   All Transportation Committee members must be at least 25 years old, have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and pass a background check.


VOLUNTEER SERVICES (HOF)

Volunteers assist the Hall of Fame staff by processing and distributing committee shirts, credentials, name badges and parking passes.  They also supervise the Volunteer Tent and act as “floater” volunteers for all other committees at Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village from August 6th through August 9th.
