The National Football League kicked off its 93rd season on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 when the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants hosted the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium. The traditional kickoff opener is slated for Thursdays but 2012’s game was moved because President Barack Obama spoke at the Democratic National Convention on that night.
