1000 x 10
Martin matches Sanders's feat
New York Jets running back Curtis Martin became just the second player in National Football League history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his first 10 seasons. Martin reached the 1,000-yard mark during Week 11 of the 2004 season to match the record set by Hall of Famer Barry Sanders .
Emmitt Smith, who narrowly missed the 1,000-yard plateau as a rookie with the Dallas Cowboys in 1990, holds the league record for consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Smith put together a string of 11 straight 1,000-yard efforts from 1991 through 2001.
Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton is the only other runner to amass 10 seasons with 1,000 yards rushing, but the late Chicago Bears runner did not put them together consecutively.
Here's the year-by-year comparison of Sanders vs. Martin.
