Hall of Fame and Texans tackle education

Team specific programs developed by Hall

The Pro Football Hall of Fame operates as a not-for-profit organization.  A key element to the museum’s mission is education.  As such, the Hall of Fame launched its Educational Outreach Program in 1984.  Since that time, the program has attracted more than 100,000 students to the museum in Canton and reached thousands more through its various educational initiatives.

Most recently, the Hall of Fame teamed with the Houston Texans to custom make classroom activities specific to the Texans’ organization for the Houston community.

“The Houston Texans are dedicated to helping youth achieve their dreams by encouraging good academic achievement,” commented Houston Texans Foundation Executive Director Joanie Haley.  “Using sports statistics and stories of perseverance through the Pro Football Hall of Fame curriculum is one way to grab students’ attention and to motivate them to greater heights.”

The Hall of Fame’s partnership with the Texans has produced a supplemental teacher activity guide designed to build an effective bridge between education and student interest.  The activity guide includes a wide range of interdisciplinary, cross-curricular classroom exercises each aligned with national standards of education in language arts, mathematics, science, family and consumer sciences, social studies, visual art and physical education for all grade levels. 

The guide is available to teachers on both the Hall of Fame and Houston Texans  websites.
