Artifacts arrive in Canton
Peyton Manning keeps making history. The Denver Broncos quarterback led his team to division clinching 37-13 win over the Houston Texans in Week 16 in record-setting fashion. Manning completed 32 of 51 passes for 400 yards and threw four touchdowns. In doing so, he reclaimed the single-season record for touchdown passes (51) that he set in 2004 with 49 touchdown tosses that had stood until it was broken in 2007 when Tom Brady of the New England Patriots threw 50 TDs.
Manning also became the first player in National Football League history to throw 50 touchdowns and pass for 5,000 yards in the same season. With one week to play, he has already achieved a career-high 5,211 yards and needs 266 yards passing in the season finale to break Drew Brees’ single-season mark set in 2011.
The jersey and cleats he wore in the game along with the football he threw for the record-setting 51st touchdown of the season was immediately sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The jersey, shoes, and ball will be placed on exhibit inside the Hall’s Pro Football Today Gallery.
