As the adage goes, “records were made to be broken.” However, there are a few records found in the National Football League’s Record Book that seemingly defy this logic. One such mark is the record set by Hall of Famer Lenny Moore in the 1960s.

The Baltimore Colts runner scored a touchdown in an amazing 18 straight games during a span that stretched over three seasons. He began the record streak against the Green Bay Packers on October 27, 1963 and continued to find the end zone in every regular season game until the Packers snapped the streak in Week 2 of the ’65 campaign.

Moore scored a total of 24 touchdowns – 19 rushing, 4 receiving, and 1on a fumble recovery – during the 18-game rampage.

For the first time in 40 years, Moore’s record was in jeopardy. The San Diego Chargers LaDainian Tomlinson tied the record during the Chargers’ win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 of the 2005 NFL season. The powerful fullback scored in consecutive games from Week 4 of the 2004 season until the Philadelphia Eagles stopped him from finding the end zone during their game on October 23, 2005.

Tomlinson surpassed the record of 13 consecutive games with a rushing touchdown - previously shared by John Riggins and George Rogers - in the Chargers’ Week 2 game against the Broncos.
