Top 20 Scorers
The Top 20 scorers of all-time include four active plackickers. Topping the list of kickers who added to their career numbers in 2005 is Jason Elam of the Denver Broncos. He became the first player in NFL history to score 100 points in each of his first 13 seasons in the NFL. Elam tacked on 115 points to his career total in 2005 as he converted 24 field goals and 43 extra points for the AFC Western Division champions. Elam climbed two spots into 12th all-time.
Matt Stover of the Baltimore Ravens was the other Top 20 scorer to reach the 100-point mark in 2005 as he added 113 points (30 field goals, 23 extra points) to his career total this past season. He now ranks tied with Eddie Murray at ninth place with 1,594 career points.
The other two active placekickers in the Top 20 are John Carney and Jason Hanson. Carney scored 97 points for the New Orleans Saints in 2005 to climb into 7th place. Hanson kicked 19 field goals and 27 PATs for 84 points with the Detroit Lions this past season to jump from 20th to 17th place among the career leaders in scoring.
