2006 student art contest winner

A Navarre Elementary student may very well be a future artist. A drawing by Cody Langenfeld, a fifth grader, earned first place honors in the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2006 Student Art Contest.

Approximately 2,500 fourth and fifth graders from Stark County participated in the contest, which is a part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Educational Outreach Program. In all, classes of 141 teachers from 50 schools and 15 districts took part in the educational-based art contest. Students were instructed to put their artistic talents into a drawing to welcome out-of-town visitors to Stark County during the 2006 Hall of Fame Festival. Each of the drawings will be placed in area hotel rooms to welcome those visitors in August. The only criteria for the artwork were for the students to make drawings that depicted football activities, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, or Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival activities.

For his winning entry, Cody (right) won a replica autographed football that includes the signatures of each member of the Class of 2006 - Troy Aikman, Harry Carson, John Madden, Warren Moon, Reggie White, and Rayfield Wright - in a collector's case with an engraved plaque and he also received four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In addition, Cody and his classmates in Susan Fritz's class at Navarre Elementary were treated to a pizza party and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items.  Cody was also invited to serve as a judge for the 2006 Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival Timken Grand Parade first annual Creative Costume Award. Cody, 10, is the son of Stephen and Ronda Langenfeld.

Second and third place prizes were also awarded. Arianna Horton, 11, of Greentown Elementary School in North Canton (teacher, Bobbi Johns) earned second place. For her efforts, she received a replica Class of 2006 autographed football in a collector's case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items for her entire class. She is the daughter of David and Diana Horton.

And placing in the top three for the second consecutive year, Quinten Fortner, an 11-year-old at South Lincoln Elementary in Alliance (teacher, Brian Skidmore) won third place. The son of Learline Fortner, Quinten won a mini football in a collector's case, four tickets to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and an assortment of Hall of Fame gift items for his entire class.

The three winning entries will be on display in the Hall of Fame throughout the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement celebration.

The judges for the contest included staff members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival.
