"Wildcat" immortalized

The jersey worn by Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown during a record-breaking performance earlier in the season has been donated to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Brown stunned the New England Patriots defense on September 21, 2008 when he rushed for four touchdowns and threw a fifth as Miami defeated its division rival, 38-13. The Dolphins win also ended the Patriots’ record 21-game regular season winning streak. 

Three of Brown’s TD runs came on direct snaps as part of the Dolphins’ “Wildcat” formation. Brown, who finished with 113 yards on 17 carries, scored his touchdowns on runs of 2, 15, 5 and 62 yards. His TD pass was a 19-yarder to tight end Anthony Fasano.

His four touchdown runs and five total touchdowns set new single-game franchise records. He also became just the second player in NFL history score four touchdowns and throw a touchdown in the same game. The only other player to accomplish that feat was Pro Football Hall of Famer Paddy Driscoll of the Chicago Cardinals in a game against the Rochester Jeffersons on October 7, 1923.

Brown continued to wear the jersey this season before donating it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It arrived at the Hall of Fame today and will be placed on exhibit in the Pro Football Today Gallery.
