Remembering 1952 NFL Championship Game
Recently, Robert Young of Massillon, Ohio was looking through some items when he came across a press pass from the 1952 NFL Championship Game in Cleveland.
Young, along with his father Herb and brother Dick, had been invited to work the game for Bob Blair, a family friend. Blair taped highlights of NFL games for Movie Tone News. The finished pieces then ran as news summaries at movie theaters across the country.
More than a half century later, Young still recalls a bitter cold day in downtown Cleveland. After helping with the film equipment, Young then logged each play of the game from the roof of the stadium. The conditions were so cold that his pen froze up and he had to resort to writing with pencils.
