Dan Dierdorf's helmet
Dan Dierdorf, from his right tackle slot, set the pace for the St. Louis Cardinals offensive line that led the NFL in fewest sacks allowed three of five seasons and the NFC five of six seasons from 1975 through 1980. The only miss for the Cardinals’ “Mean Machine” front line came in 1979, when Dierdorf missed all but two games with a dislocated knee. A perennial All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, Dierdorf wore this helmet in the 1978 Pro Bowl. The helmet includes a specially modified facemask designed to provide added protection to Dierdorf who played with a broken jaw.
