Cam’s record ball

The much publicized football that Cam Newton gave to a 16-year-old fan in the end zone at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Dec. 4 has arrived at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The rookie sensation for the Carolina Panthers made history in a 38-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 when he set the NFL season record for rushing TDs by a quarterback.

Newton, the former Heisman Trophy winner, had three rushing scores in the rout which were his 11th, 12th, and 13th of the season. He celebrated his record score by running to a fan by the name of Katie Brown who was sitting in the first row of the end zone dressed in a homemade t-shirt that paid tribute to Newton. The young quarterback handed the ball off to the stunned teenager.

Moments later after realizing that the football should be forever preserved in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Panthers equipment manager Don Toner approached Brown and asked for the ball back so it could be sent to Canton, Ohio. Brown readily agreed and her graciousness was rewarded with several Panthers hats and another game ball.

Newton's historic touchdown broke the mark set by the New England Patriots' Steve Grogan in 1976.
