Commemorative coin act moving closer to reality
Hall of Famers
Published on : 5/11/2012
Five Hall of Famers – Floyd Little, Bobby Mitchell, Warren Moon, Bruce Smith and Kellen Winslow – were on Capitol Hill on Thursday to show their support of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The group of football greats traveled to Washington to back a plan for the U.S. Mint to sell commemorative coins with proceeds to benefit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. H.R. 4104 the Pro Football Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act is sponsored by two Ohio lawmakers, Republican Representative Jim Renacci and GOP U.S. Senator Rob Portman.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has the world’s largest collection of artifacts and documents related to pro football. Proceeds from the sale of the coins would help support the Hall of Fame's preservation efforts.
The coins will go on sale in 2016 if the bill, which comes at no cost to taxpayers, passes. Renacci and Portman believe their bill will garner enough support in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
