Two Minutes of Pro Football History: Holders of the Interception Return Yardage record

Ed Reed picked off the Cincinnati Bengals’ Andy Dalton and returned the interception 34 yards for a score late in the third quarter of the Baltimore Ravens convincing win on Monday Night Football in Week 1. The play by the veteran safety made him the National Football League’s all-time leader in interception return yardage. His career total now stands at 1,497 yards on 58 career interceptions which allowed him to surpass previous record holder, Hall of Famer Rod Woodson.

The gloves Reed wore on the play were sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame where they will be placed on exhibit inside the Pro Football Today Gallery.

The gloves are not the first artifacts received by the Hall of Fame that chronicle Reed’s stellar career. Reed also owns the top two marks for longest interception returns (107 and 106 yards) and most interception yardage in a season. Mementos from all three of those milestones – shoes from his 106-yard return in 2004, the ball from his interception yardage season mark that same year, and the jersey he wore on his 107-yard pick-six in 2008 – were donated to the Hall of Fame and are currently on exhibit. His gloves will take residence nearby the other historic mementos.
