Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver JOHN STALLWORTH gathered his friends together for a golf outing in Huntsville, Ala. this past summer to help raise money for the John Stallworth Foundation, which provides scholarships at Alabama A&M, Stallworth's alma mater.

Now, the former Steelers receiver has created The Legends Roundtable to share experiences of some of the most successful men to have ever played the game of football and provide inspiration for young athletes both on and off the field.
    
Stallworth has compiled a star-studded panel that includes two other Pro Football Hall of Famers and ex-Steeler teammates MEL BLOUNT and JOE GREENE as well as Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy, who also played two seasons with the Steelers from 1977-78. The four-person panel will take the stage Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at the Von Braun Center's Concert Hall in Huntsville at 7 p.m.

"Tony and Mel and Joe have had great careers but even more importantly they've done things the right way," Stallworth said. "We think this is going to be a good opportunity for them to share their message and be a positive influence on some young men and women in our community."

Tickets for the public go on sale this week. They are $35. The Foundation distributed some 900 free tickets to athletes, male and female, at local high schools and colleges.

Class of 1980 Pro Football Hall of Fame member HERB ADDERLEY has teamed up with one of his former Green Bay Packers teammate once again. He and 2013 Hall of Fame Senior Nominee and former Packers linebacker Dave Robinson have been working with writer Royce Boyles to co-author a new book about their former head coach VINCE LOMBARDI.

The title of the book is “Lombardi’s Left Side” since both Adderley and Robinson were cornerstones of the left side of Lombardi’s great Packers defenses. As with most books written about the legendary coach, the story encompasses more than just football. It touches on teamwork, leadership and overcoming the obstacles that race relations presented during the 1960s.

 “There’s a lot of interest in Dave Robinson and the Packers of the ’60s because of his nomination for the Hall of Fame. ‘Lombardi’s Left Side’ will certainly give readers a glimpse inside the Packers dynasty, but there’s more to the story than that,” Boyles said. “Herb Adderley has been under the radar for years and he has some very controversial things to say.”

“Lombardi’s Left Side” is expected to hit bookshelves in late September/early October of 2012.


Come Nov. 8, 2012 the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame will open its doors to one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to play professional football. More than 30 years after JOHNNY UNITAS was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he will be inducted into the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame with six others at their 53rd enshrinement ceremony.

Unitas, who spent 17 seasons playing with the Baltimore Colts, is a Pittsburgh Pa. native, will be honored along with golf legend Carol Mann, who is also a Pittsburgh native, as a result of a change in the organization's bylaws.

Since the inaugural ceremony in 1956, all inductees were required to be Maryland natives, but recently the group added this to the eligibility requirements:

"Through their athletic achievements and significant contributions to their local communities and the State of Maryland, have earned the distinction at the sole discretion of the Board, of becoming an 'Adopted' Marylander. Earning this distinction requires the nominee to have lived in the state for at least 25 years."

The program is set to run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will take place at Michael's 8th Avenue in Glen Burnie, Md.
