Ernie Nevers sideline coat
Stanford All-American Ernie Nevers signed a contract with the National Football League’s Duluth (Minn.) Eskimos in 1926. Capitalizing on his national fame, the team was renamed “Ernie Nevers’ Eskimos” and set out on a 29-game, 17,000-mile barnstorming tour. Nevers, who wore this coat during the tour, was a true ironman and played in all but 29 minutes of the circuit.
