Culp to get HOF Ring

Defensive tackle Curley Culp will receive his Hall of Fame ring during a special ceremony at halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs home game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. Culp is the sixth member of the Class of 2013 to be honored this season.

Former New York Giants coach Bill Parcells received his Hall of Fame ring during Week 2, Dallas Cowboys honored guard Larry Allen on Oct. 13, the Minnesota Vikings’ Cris Carter and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Warren Sapp received their rings in Week 10, and Jonathan Ogden received his ring last weekend in Baltimore. Linebacker Dave Robinson will receive his Hall of Fame ring in Green Bay on Dec. 8.
Culp was formally enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3. It was during the enshrinement ceremony held inside Canton’s Fawcett Stadium that he, with help from his son and presenter Chad Culp, unveiled the bronze bust that resides permanently in the Hall of Fame. On the eve of that ceremony, Culp received his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket.
The bust, jacket and the ring are the three physical icons that represent an individual’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. All three symbols will be displayed during the ring presentation to Culp on Sunday afternoon. He will wear his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and his bronze bust will be temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame and shipped to Kansas City for the ring ceremony.
Culp spent the first 6½ seasons of his stellar career with the Chiefs and was a key component of Kansas City’s vaunted defense that also included fellow Hall of Famers Bobby Bell, Buck Buchanan, Willie Lanier, and Emmitt Thomas. In his just his second season, Culp helped the Chiefs to a Super Bowl IV victory.
Midway through his career, Culp was dealt by the Chiefs to the Houston Oilers where he quickly developed into pro football’s prototype nose tackle. In all, Culp was elected to six Pro Bowls, and selected first- or second-team All-Pro five times.
