Monday Nuggets: Week 3
Back in Philly
Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson returned to Philadelphia this past weekend after six successful seasons with the Eagles. Although the Redskins lost 37-34, Jackson had five catches for 117 yards and a touchdown (81 yards). Jackson, who had two 80+ yard touchdown catches with the Eagles, is only the third player in NFL history to log an 80-yard touchdown catch both for and against the same team. Pro Football Hall of Famer Charlie Joiner (Houston Oilers) and Art Powell (Oakland Raiders) are the others to achieve this feat.

Jackson scored on an 88-yard TD pass (see video below) against the Redskins on the first play from scrimmage in the Eagles 59-28 drubbing of the Washington Redskins on Nov. 17, 2010. That was the longest TD pass in the opening minute of a game since the 1969 season. Roman Gabriel connected with Wendall Tucker for a 93-yard touchdown strike when the Los Angeles Rams faced the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 9,1969.
Super Bowl Rematches
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 26-20 in overtime during Week 3. This was just the sixth time in NFL history that a Super Bowl rematch occurred in the following regular season. The Seahawks defeated the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII last season in New York/New Jersey. The defending Super Bowl champion has now won four of the six meetings in the history of these games.

Switching Roles
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton achieved a unique feat this past weekend. The fourth-year veteran recorded his first career touchdown reception. The catch came on a pass from receiver Mohamed Sanu in the first quarter and served as the lightning rod for a 33-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans. This was the first touchdown reception by a quarterback in Bengals franchise history.

The last NFL quarterback to accomplish this feat was the Kansas City Chiefs’ Tyler Thigpen in 2008 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Trivia. Interestingly, only one Hall of Fame quarterback has caught a pass for a touchdown. Can you guess who it is? See answer at bottom of the page.
Tight with Tom
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady connected with tight end Rob Gronkowski for a 6-yard touchdown pass against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. In doing so, the pair now has a total of 44 career combined touchdowns, tying Peyton Manning and Dallas Clark for the third-most quarterback to tight end touchdowns of all time.
QUARTERBACK | TIGHT END | TEAM | TDS |
Philip Rivers | Antonio Gates | San Diego | 63* |
Drew Bledsoe | Ben Coates | New England | 45 |
Tom Brady | Rob Gronkowski | New England | 44* |
Peyton Manning | Dallas Clark | Indianapolis | 44 |
Drew Brees | Jimmy Graham | New Orleans | 43* |
Sonny Jurgensen | Jerry Smith | Washington | 43 |
Dan Fouts | Kellen Winslow | San Diego | 41 |
John Elway | Shannon Sharpe | Denver | 41 |
Trivia Answer: John Elway. The Denver Broncos signal caller hauled in a 23-yard pass from running back Steven Sewell on Sept. 7, 1986 in the second quarter against the L.A. Raiders to put his team within five points. The Broncos finished off the Raiders 38-36 as Elway also completed 21 passes for 239 yards and two touchdown passes of his own.
