Brees Throws 5 TDs

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees led his team to a 35-32 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. He completed 19 of his 27 passes for 257 yards and five touchdowns. Brees now has thrown five or more touchdown passes with no interceptions in an NFL record seven career games.

The Vikings Deliver Special Performance

Minnesota Vikings special-teamers Adam Thielen and Everson Griffen each returned blocked punts for touchdowns during the first quarter of the the Vikings’ 31-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

The last time a team scored on two blocked punts in the same NFL game was on Sept. 30, 1990, when the Kansas City Chiefs did it against the Cleveland Browns. The Vikings, however, are the first team since the 1975 Detroit Lions (September 21 at Green Bay) to return two blocked punts for touchdowns in the same half.

Making Plays

J.J. Watt continues to make plays all over the field for the Houston Texans this season. The defensive lineman recorded his third touchdown reception during the Texans 45-21 victory against the Tennessee Titans. He also had two sacks, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble from his natural position.

Watt has 11 1/2 sacks and five touchdowns this year making him the first player in NFL history to have at least 10 sacks and three or more touchdowns in a season since 1982, when sacks became an official statistic.

Luck on Top

Andrew Luck threw for 370 yards and a career-high five touchdowns to lead the Indianapolis Colts past the Washington Redskins 49-27 on Sunday. Luck has thrown for at least 300 passing yards in 10 games this season surpassing Peyton Manning’s franchise record.

Luck also became the first quarterback in Colts history to throw two touchdown passes of 70 yards or more in the same game and the third Colts quarterback with 30 TD passes in a season joining Manning and Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas.

After yesterday’s victory, the Colts signal-caller has won 30 regular season games, becoming the fifth NFL player since 1970 to do so in a player's first three seasons. Luck also joined Manning and Gold Jacket Dan Marino as the only players to throw for 4,000 yards in two of their first three seasons.

Indianapolis also had its highest points total since November 2004 and became the first team to score six TDs of 30 or more yards in one game since the Washington Redskins torched the New York Giants 72-41 on Nov. 27, 1966.

Johnson Fastest to 10,000

Calvin Johnson had 11 receptions for 146 yards and 2 TDS during his team's 34-17 win over the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day. In doing so, he became the fastest player in NFL history to log 10,000 receiving yards. He broke the record in his 115th game surpassing the mark set by Torry Holt, who hit 10,000 career receiving yards in 116 games.

With 10,052 career receiving yards, Johnson is currently in 43rd place on the all time list. Johnson also moved up the career 100-yard games mark Thursday. With his 42nd 100-yard game, Johnson is now tied for 15th all time with Gold Jacket Cris Carter.

Tre Taking it to the House

St. Louis Rams running back Tre Mason rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries in the Rams’ 52-0 victory against the Oakland Raiders. He also added 47 yards on three receptions and a receiving touchdown. Mason’s first touchdown of the day came on a 35-yard reception on St. Louis’s first drive. His second score was a blistering 89-yard run through the middle of the Raiders defense. Mason is just the fourth player in NFL history with an 85+ yard TD run and a 35+ yard TD catch in the same game.
