HOF Volunteer Hits the Century Mark
Pro Football Hall of Fame volunteer Bette Mizer turned 100 on Wednesday. What did she do the day after the milestone birthday? She went to work at the Pro Football Hall of Fame! Every Thursday morning, Bette drives herself to 2121 George Halas Drive to work her shift as a museum volunteer. However, today, the Hall of Fame sent a limousine to pick her up. She entered the Hall to the applause of the entire Hall of Fame staff who had gathered to greet her for a special birthday celebration.
“I’ve never been so surprised!” she exclaimed.
The grand lobby was decorated with balloons, flowers and a birthday sign. Hall of Fame President David Baker escorted Mizer to her “throne” where a birthday crown, a sash and a cake awaited her. The staff sang "Happy Birthday" before Baker got on one knee and thanked Mizer for her services at the Hall and kissed her on her hand. After all, she’s the only Hall of Fame volunteer who is older than the National Football League!
