When Aerosmith Kicked Off the Inaugural Concert for Legends
Last year the Pro Football Hall of Fame added music and entertainment to its legendary Enshrinement Weekend with its inaugural Concert for Legends. Rock’s greatest live act, Aerosmith, was the first band to perform in the concert.
“The Concert for Legends pays tribute to the legends of the Game on the eve of the Enshrinement for the newest Class of Enshrinees,” explained Hall of Fame President David Baker. “For our fans and for our mission statement, we wanted legends of football, our Gold Jackets, to honor legends of music. With this, the decision was made to bring one of America’s greatest rock bands, Aerosmith, who had previously performed at the Super Bowl.”
The band Living Colour was the opening act and set the stage for Aerosmith. Living Colour ended their short set on a high note with their hit "Cult of Personality." After their set, the lights dimmed and the crowd chanted for Aerosmith.
The legendary band then came on stage and delivered a high-energy set to the sold-out crowd of more than 22,000 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame stadium. It was the largest crowd they have played in front of during their tour. They performed their chart topping hits such as “I don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” “Walk This Way,” and “Sweet Emotion to name a few.
Steven Tyler surprised the crowd by bringing the Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders on stage to dance with him for a song. Aerosmith concluded the show with an encore performance of "Dream On."
