Brett Favre Shows off Arm
Brett Favre took the field yesterday and showed fans he’s still got the arm. No he’s not thinking about suiting up again, but he did throw out the first pitch of the second inning at the Biloxi Shuckers minor league baseball game in Biloxi, Miss.
Favre attended the game to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
“I'm here for a wonderful cause and something that is dear to our hearts. I'm just glad I got it across the plate,'' explained Favre to the Sun Herald.
Favre started four years as quarterback at Southern Mississippi before he was drafted in the second round (33rd overall) by the Atlanta Falcons in the 1991 NFL Draft. Favre saw little action as a rookie and was traded to the Green Bay Packers the following season in exchange for a first round pick. An injury to the Packers’ incumbent starter Don Majikowski in Week 3 immediately thrust Brett into action. From that point, Favre embarked on a career in which he rewrote the NFL’s record book during his 20-year career.
The former quarterback will be formally Enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 6. The Enshrinement Ceremony is held in Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton and caps a spectacular Enshrinement Festival that celebrates the newest enshrinees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Family to Honor Former NFL Ref Dave Parry at Gold Jacket 5K Race
Football isn’t just a job for NFL referee John Parry, it’s a family affair. John’s father Dave (below) was a highly accomplished member of the football officiating fraternity. John and his family want to honor the late Parry a unique way. The best way to do that in their minds was to participate in the Hall of Fame’s Gold Jacket 5k Race on Saturday, April 23.
