For the sixth consecutive season, Matthew Slater, son of Gold Jacket Jackie Slater, has been selected to the Pro Bowl, as a specialist. Only Buffalo Bills legend Steve Tasker has the most Pro Bowl appearances of any special team player with seven.

While he trails his father, Jackie, who was a 20-year veteran that made seven Pro Bowl appearance as an offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams.

Among the father-son Pro Bowl tandems include Gill Byrd and Jairus Byrd, Bob Griese and Brian Griese, Howie Long and Kyle Long, Archie Manning and Peyton Manning, Archie Manning and Eli Manning, Clay Matthews Jr. and Clay Matthews III, and Kellen Winslow and Kellen Winslow II.

Going up in the shadow of a Hall of Famer could be a hard task to follow. But for New England’s wide-out Matthew Slater, he and his brother embraced the values that their father instilled in them at a very young age.

“In my mind, my dad will always be superior,” Slater said to the media via WEEI’s Mike Petraglia. “For not only what he did on the football field, but the type of man he was, the way he tried to raise my brother and I.”
