“2018 Class In Session” - Pt. 3

As we continue to look ahead at the Hall’s latest “2018 Class in Session” series, we examine the career of Indianapolis Colts legend Jeff Saturday who is eligible and a potential member for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018.
 
Over the course of Saturday’s 13-year NFL career, he made six Pro Bowls, 2-time First Team All Pro, tied for 36th all-time among interior lineman and was a first team all-pro selection twice. He also Won Super Bowl XLI with the Indianapolis Colts and made it to Super Bowl XLIV as well. Saturday was also a member of the Pro Football Reference All-2000s First Team.
 
Along with anchoring the Colt’s offensive line and playing with one of the greatest quarterbacks and future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, longevity could help Saturday's case as selectors examine Saturday’s body of work. His 211 games played are eleventh among interior lineman and his 202 games started, tenth. He also captained an offensive line that helped the Colts finish in the top three in total offense nine times during his career.
 
For Saturday, the center position is believed to be one of the most difficult positions to get elected. Of the 310 Hall of Fame members, only 7 centers have been elected from the modern era (12 total including 2-way players pre-modern era). Those men are Jim Otto (1980), Jim Ringo (1981), Frank Gatski (1985), Jim Langer (1987), Mike Webster (1997), Dwight Stephenson (1998), and Dermontti Dawson (2005).
