Rail Earns Fan Favorite at Taste of HOF

The vote is in and the people have spoken, The Rail was crowned the People’s Choice award winner Tuesday night at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank’s 10th annual Taste of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Rail won the honor by serving its Mojo Burger, made with a 50/50 blend of Ohio beef and Ohio andouille sausage, lettuce, tomato, local cheddar and house-made jalapeño coleslaw; the Mr. Mariola Sandwich; the Bruschetta Burger; and a blueberry-basil lemonade made with OYO Vodka.

“Our community truly rallied together to support hunger-relief efforts and honor genuine football legends,” Foodbank President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Flowers said in a prepared statement.

More than 20 local and national vendors prepared food for the event and competed for the People’s Choice award.

The event raised over $100k and about 700 people attended the fundraiser. All donated funds provided the equivalent of more than 700,000 meals in the region.

Also in attendance were Pro Football Hall of Famers Morten Andersen (17’), John Randle (10’), Dave Robinson (13’) and Thurman Thomas (07’). Gold Jackets attended the event to mingle with guests and sign autographs.

Taste of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a partnership between NFL teams and food banks across the country. Local events are held in NFL cities throughout the year, and a national Taste of the NFL event is held on the eve of the Super Bowl.
