HOF Artifact of the Week

Wake600

This Miami Dolphins jersey was worn by defensive end Cameron Wake in the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Dallas Cowboys. This is the only jersey in the Hall’s collection that we know has been worn in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

The only other Pro Football Hall of Fame Game worn equipment in the collection are the glasses that Hall of Famer Bob Griese wore for the Miami Dolphins in the 1978 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 2013 season also marked the 50th Anniversary of the Pro Football Hall of Fame opening its doors in 1963. We have many game balls and flip coins from Pro Hall of Fame Games.

Even though the Dolphins lost to the Cowboys 24-20, collecting the jersey served a dual purpose for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Miami Dolphins debuted their new uniform in the 2013 Hall of Fame Game. We honored the Dolphins for their new colors by collecting Cameron’s uniform from the game.

Traditionally, when teams debut new uniforms the Pro Football Hall of Fame seeks from that team a complete game used uniform worn by a prominent player. Cameron Wake is a five-time Pro Bowler (including 2013) and earned All-Pro honors in 2012. He has recorded 92 sacks in his 9-year career. This year the Dolphins are making slight changes to the orange and blue striping on their uniform.

Our weekly artifacts and other unique items are featured daily in our docent presentations for visitors of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Plan your visit to the Hall to learn more about the collection in our archives.
