Malden native Jared Martino makes football history

The game, the first showcasing the top United States prep school players outside the country, will be aired on CBS Sports Network on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m.

“I’m honored to have been selected for the first Pro Football Hall of Fame World Bowl,” Martino said. “I want to thank the Cheshire Academy coaching staff for preparing me for this opportunity and I’m excited to represent The Academy.”

Martino, a 6-foot, 220-pound running back, recently became the first player from Cheshire Academy to earn All-New England Class A Player of the Year honors. Martino led the Cats this past season with 1,123 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, while adding eight passing touchdowns.

His season was highlighted by a six-touchdown performance against Canadian-power Clarkson. Martino completed 10-of-17 passes for 180 yards and three scores, and also ran 17 times for 165 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

“It’s an incredible honor and it’s amazing to see his talents recognized on a national level as a player,” Cheshire Academy head football coach David Dykeman said. “He’s been such an integral part of our program for two years, not only on the field but also with his leadership off the field and his contributions to our community and school.”

The coaches and scouting staff for the Pro Football Hall of Fame World Bowl will include Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, former NFL general manager Ray Farmer and former players Tory Holt, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and more.
