Denver mayor Michael B. Hancock will make an announcement Wednesday at the City & County Building proclaiming Oct. 9, 2019, as “Pat Bowlen Day,” honoring the late Broncos owner.

Fans are welcome to attend the proclamation at 1437 Bannock St. at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The mayor will raise a Broncos flag, encourage everyone in the city to wear orange and will temporarily rename Bannock St. “Pat Bowlen Way.” Hancock will also present the Mayor’s Gold Challenge Coin in Bowlen’s honor.

Bowlen died on June 13 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He served as the team’s owner from 1984-2019 and helped the Broncos reach seven Super Bowls, winning three of them.

Bowlen was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year. The team will honor Bowlen and cornerback Champ Bailey at halftime of Sunday’s game against the Titans. Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker will present Hall of Fame rings to Bailey and members of Bowlen’s family on Sunday. You can watch the Livestream of the event on the Pro Football Hall of Fame Facebook page.
