Jimmy Johnson Collection to the Hall

Class 2020 Enshrinee Jimmy Johnson has donated some unique and exclusive items to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Starting today (3/23/20), HOF Facebook Twitter and Instagram will roll out the collection daily.
 

1-1964 Arkansas Championship Football

Jimmy was a guard on the 1964 Arkansas National Championship team with his teammate, Dallas Cowboys owner and Gold Jacket - Jerry Jones. Jimmy donated the commemorative championship ball which included his photo. That Arkansas team was coached by the legendary College Hall of Famer, Frank Broyles. Arkansas defeated Nebraska 10-7 in the Cotton Bowl to claim the national title after undefeated Alabama lost to Texas. Two other coaches from that staff included Hall of Famers Johnny Majors and Barry Switzer.

2- Football from Cowboys beating the Redskins 13-3 on Nov 5, 1989 (Jimmy Johnson’s first NFL coaching victory)

It was Johnson’s first season and even with rookies Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin, the Cowboys were 0-8 when they traveled to Washington where they defeated their long time rivals. Unfortunately that was the only victory of the season. During the season, the Cowboys made a blockbuster trade that turned around their fortunes from the bottom of the standings to three Super Bowl wins in the 90’s.

Star running back Herschel Walker would be traded to the Minnesota Vikings for multiple players and draft picks. By finishing 1–15 the Cowboys would have received the top spot in the 1990 NFL Draft; however, the pick was forfeited because the Cowboys drafted Walsh in the Supplemental Draft.

Later, they would draft a running back out of Florida named Emmitt Smith, with one of the many draft choices obtained from the Vikings in the Herschel Walker trade. Other notable additions to the team that year include center Mark Stepnoski, fullback Daryl Johnston, and defensive end Tony Tolbert.

Johnson's Miami Hurricanes posted the school's first undefeated regular season in 1986, only to lose the Fiesta Bowl and the national championship to #2-ranked Penn State. The loss, along with losses in Miami's prior two bowl games, began to raise questions about whether Johnson was capable of winning major games. In the ensuing 1987 season, however, the Hurricanes went undefeated in the regular season yet again, and won the school's second national title by defeating Barry Switzer's Oklahoma Sooners for the third season in a row.
