Peyton Manning Foundation Endows Scholarships at 6 HBCUs
The Peyback Foundation, which was founded in 1999 by Peyton Manning and his wife, Ashley, has endowed six scholarships — four at Historically Black Colleges and Universities in his home state of Louisiana and two at HBCUs in Tennessee, where he played quarterback at the University of Tennessee.
The gifts were to be anonymous, but Doug Williams, an alum of Grambling State — an HBCU in Louisiana that will benefit from the Mannings’ generosity — did a little snooping after he learned the scholarship there will bear his name.
Williams quickly discovered the link to the Mannings’ foundation.
A scholarship at Southern University, also in Louisiana, will bear the name of Harold Carmichael, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Centennial Class of 2020.
