This weekend, Pro Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas is heading back to Oklahoma State University to be an inaugural member of its ring of honor. Thomas is extremely humbled to receive an honor of this magnitude, “It was quite the surprise,” said a gracious Thomas.
“I know they wanted me back for the West Virginia game, but they were just kind of talking about celebrating going against West Virginia and playing in my last game at the Sun Bowl. I thought it was something like, they just really kind of wanted to congratulate me on. But it turns out that, I’m going to be the first one in their ring of honor,” he finished.
Thomas will be joined on the field by his wife, mother, children and a host of friends for Saturday’s halftime spectacular at Boone Pickens Stadium, where the Cowboys face the West Virginia Mountaineers.
A familiar foe that brings back fond memories for the former Cowboy. Thomas torched the Mountaineers for four touchdowns and was named MVP of the game, in the 1987 Sun Bowl.
Thomas' name and number, 34, will be retired by Oklahoma State. Thomas chose this number in honor of his “HERO”, Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. The Buffalo Bills Legend has worn this number throughout his entire football career, and it will now, forever live in the west end zone of the stadium.
“This is going to be a great weekend and I appreciate all of the hard work that Oklahoma State has put into this honor for me to be the first one. It means that, not only did I do it on the field but off the field as well and I represented my school very, very well,” said a confident Thomas.
