Voting Opens for Second Annual Great American Rivalry Series Scholar Athlete HOF
Voting for the 2021 Great American Rivalry Series® (GARS) Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame Team opens today. It will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The Top 25 vote-getters will be named to the second annual GARS Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame Team, presented by the United States Marine Corps. They will be eligible for an additional scholarship and will experience additional recognition from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“We are very happy to recognize these senior athletes for their outstanding performance on the field and as students throughout their high school careers,” noted Rick Ford, CEO of the Great American Rivalry Series. “In this unique time, we felt that it is extremely important that the Great American Rivalry Series and our presenting partner, the United States Marines, continue the 18-year tradition of recognizing their achievements.”
The Great American Rivalry Series and the Pro Football Hall of Fame teamed together to recognize the hard work and dedication of these student-athletes across the nation. Each GARS Scholar Athlete will receive a $500 scholarship.
“Each of the Scholar Athletes recognized through the Great American Rivalry Series demonstrates the values the Pro Football Hall of Fame encourages and promotes,” said Pat Lindesmith, Chief Partnership Officer at the Hall. “They excel on the field and in the classroom because they embrace the commitment it takes to succeed and the courage required to bounce back from adversity. We are proud to partner with GARS and the Marines to recognize these accomplished young athletes.”
Since 2004, recipients of the GARS Scholar Athlete Award have been chosen annually as part of the Great American Rivalry Series. More than 1,700 Scholar Athlete Award winners have been recognized for their “on the field” and “in the classroom” success. The United States Marine Corps has committed to being the presenting partner of the GARS Scholar Athlete Hall of Fame Team.
The U.S. Marine Corps has a long-standing association with the Great American Rivalry Series.
“We are excited to take our long-standing and successful Great American Rivalry Series partnership to the next level with the addition of the Pro Football Hall of Fame,” said Leroy Pennington, Marine Corps Marketing Specialist. “The elite status of the Rivalry Series and Hall of Fame fits perfectly with the Fighting Spirit of the Marine Corps and these fine young athletes.”
