The Mission: Featuring Mississippi Valley State legend Sylvester Pinckney
Every Thursday, Hall of Fame Productions is proud to air a new episode of “The Mission” podcast. During the month of May, we’ll pay tribute to sports professionals with Pro Football Hall of Fame relationships and the amazing work they are doing in their communities.
This week’s guest is Sylvester Pinckney from Jacksonville, Fla., who had the opportunity to play for Archie “Gunslinger” Cooley, who invented the “Satellite Express” offense.
This was a no-huddle offense with five wideouts that set many school records still held today. This is the same offense that produced Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice and Black College Football Hall of Famer Willie Totten, both proud graduates of Mississippi Valley State University.
On “The Mission” podcast, Pinckney shares stories of learning life lessons from his coaching staff at Mississippi Valley that have helped him throughout his professional career.
Also, Pinckney gives us play-by-play moments of the Hall’s newest class member and dear friend, LeRoy Butler. From their playing days at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Pinckney recalls the game when he knew Butler was a special talent. As a sophomore, LeRoy had nine interceptions playing outside linebacker and he took seven of them back for TOUCHDOWN!
