Pro Football Hall of Fame receives artifacts worn by Lions Brian Branch and 49ers Brock Purdy from Week 1

The Pro Football Hall of Fame recently received its first artifacts from the 2023 NFL regular season, which include a jersey worn by Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch and a game ball and shoes from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. The artifacts will be on display in the Pro Football Today Gallery.

In his first career NFL game, against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, Brian Branch intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. This play helped the Lions to their first Week 1 victory since the 2017 season.

Branch’s jersey features the “NFL PREM1ERE” patch, the League's first jersey patch program created to recognize and celebrate each rookie's first game in the NFL. The defensive back was selected in the second round (No. 45 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Lions.

Brock Purdy, “Mr. Irrelevant” from the 2022 NFL Draft, also will have artifacts on display at the Hall of Fame. The 49ers quarterback became the first player in NFL history to win his first six regular-season starts while also throwing for multiple touchdowns in each game. The streak dates back to last season, when Purdy became San Francisco’s starting quarterback in Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During the six-game span, Purdy has totaled 1,318 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, adding another three scores on the ground.

Finishing the 49ers’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 with a passer rating of 111.3, Purdy became the first quarterback in NFL history to register a passer rating of 95 or higher in each of his first six starts.

The game-used artifacts from Brian Branch and Brock Purdy are the first to arrive at the Hall from the 2023-24 season.
