Artifacts from records Browns' Myles Garrett, Dustin Hopkins set on display in Canton
In a thrilling 39-38 shootout victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, two Cleveland Browns players made NFL history.
Myles Garrett, who recorded two sacks in the win for Cleveland, passed Hall of Famer REGGIE WHITE (80 sacks) for the most sacks by a player prior to his 28th birthday. White reached 80 sacks during the 1989 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Garrett, who turns 28 on Dec. 29, passed another Hall of Famer, Derrick Thomas, in the same statistic earlier this season. He had totaled 77 sacks before his 28th birthday in 1995.
Since entering the NFL in 2017, Garrett’s 82 sacks are second most in the league, behind T.J. Watt’s 85.5.
For the game, Garrett registered two sacks, two forced fumbles and blocked a field goal, becoming the first player to record those statistics in a single game since 2000.
Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins played a crucial part in the victory over the Colts, converting three 50-yard field goals (54, 54 and 58 yards). Dating back to Week 2, Hopkins has scored a 50-yard field goal in five consecutive games, with a long of 58 in Week 7.
In doing so, Hopkins became the first kicker in NFL history to convert a 50-yard field goal in five consecutive games in a single season.
Garrett and Hopkins will have artifacts on display in the Hall’s “Pro Football Today Gallery,” with both players’ game-worn jerseys and Garrett’s shoes now featured in Canton.
