Flag football is set to get in the Olympic Games for the first time.
Five sports were added to the 2028 Los Angeles Games by the International Olympic Committee on Monday with baseball-softball, cricket, lacrosse and squash also being added.
The decision came from the Olympic body's full membership at a meeting in Mumbai, India, after being proposed by Los Angeles officials one week ago and recommended by the IOC executive board on Friday.
IFAF, the NFL and USA Football — the national governing body of American football in the United States — have joined forces to welcome the vote, which will see American football featured in the official program of the Olympic Games for the first time in history when flag football makes its debut appearance in 2028, according to a news release from the NFL.
"To compete in the Olympic Games is the ultimate dream of every athlete, and millions of flag football players around the world will go to sleep dreaming of Los Angeles 2028 tonight," said Flag football star Diana Flores. "I want to thank everyone who has made this possible — including all my fellow athletes and ambassadors who have played such a central role in driving the project forward."
