Virginia State University will take the field in Canton against Benedict College in the 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic on Sept. 1. The matchup of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will be the third between these schools, with Virginia State claiming victory in 2012 and Benedict winning the matchup in 2013.

“The Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic weekend is the premier showcase for all of Northeast Ohio to celebrate the excellence that resides at America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” said Pro Football Hall of Fame Chief Relationship Officer Adrian Allison. “We are excited to welcome Benedict College and Virginia State University’s students, staff, alumni and fans as we honor the legacies of the members of the Black College Football Hall of Fame. This year’s Classic, like the previous four, promises to be a fun-filled weekend capped by a championship-caliber football game.”

Entering 2024, Benedict will look to continue their success from last season under first-year head coach Ron Dickerson Jr., which included winning the SIAC Football Championship. Virginia State returns nine players who garnered all-conference honors across the first, second and rookie teams under head coach Dr. Henry Frazier III, who took the helm for the Tigers in 2022.

Fans can purchase tickets starting today to see the game and the halftime band show featuring Benedict’s Marching Tiger Band of Distinction and the Virginia State Trojan Explosion Marching Band at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Tickets, starting at $25, are available here.
