Deebo Samuel joins Hall of Famer in exclusive company after milestone in fifth season

Through a player's first five seasons in the NFL, only Pro Football Hall of Famer CHARLEY TAYLOR had recorded both 4,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards.

That was until Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season.

Entering his fifth pro season, Deebo Samuel had proven to be a dual-threat offensive talent, lining up as a receiver and taking snaps in the backfield.

In Week 15, Samuel surpassed 4,000 yards receiving with a 19-yard touchdown reception in the San Francisco 49ers’ 45-29 win. Two weeks later, in the final game of the regular season, Samuel needed only 4 rushing yards to eclipse 1,000 yards for his career. An 11-yard run early in the opening quarter pushed him into the exclusive company with Taylor.

From 1964-68, Taylor was the focal point of the Washington Redskins’ offense, amassing 4,150 receiving yards and 1,416 rushing yards in his first five seasons.

Samuel’s game-worn gloves, shoes and skull cap from his milestone performance against the Los Angeles Rams on Jan. 7, 2024, now are featured in the Hall’s “Pro Football Today Gallery.”
