Jason Myers caps record-setting season with record-setting Super Bowl

As the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots schematically stifled any explosive offense Sunday in Super Bowl LX, Seahawks kicker Jason Myers submitted a record-setting performance to complete a prolific season.

Myers scored 17 points after connecting on all five of his field-goal attempts and two extra points, setting Super Bowl records for both points scored by a kicker and made field goals. Of his 17 points, 12 came in the first three quarters and comprised the only scoring for either team through nearly 47 minutes of play.

The leg of Myers, coupled with a potent rushing attack and an onslaught of aggressive blitz packages, propelled the Seahawks past the Patriots 29-13 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The sure-footed righty connected on his fifth and record-setting kick with 5:38 remaining in the fourth quarter from 26 yards out to give the Seahawks a commanding 22-7 lead.

“My goal was to just come through when my time was called,” Myers told “Good Morning America” on Monday morning. “I just felt so confident in all of the work that I’ve put in over the years and confident in our team… Whenever my time was called, I was going to be ready for the moment.”

For Myers, the moment had been building all year.

Along with multiple Super Bowl records, he also set the record for points scored in an NFL season (including postseason). Myers had scored 189 points entering the Super Bowl, trailing only LaDAINIAN TOMLINSON'S 198 points during his stellar 2006 season. Myers’ record 17 points scored in the title game brought his season total to 206.

Myers’ standout regular season included 41 field goals made and a league-leading 171 points.

Although he did not win the Super Bowl MVP award, which went to running back Kenneth Walker — who gained 135 rushing yards on 27 carries and 26 receiving yards on two catchs, Myers’ record night helped the Seahawks become NFL champions for the first time since 2014 and the second time in the franchise’s history.
