Chad Hennings' helmet and flag

History Published on : 1/1/2005

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Chad Hennings is the only NFL player to serve in the Gulf War.  Hennings, an Air Force Academy graduate, flew 45 missions over Northern Iraq before embarking on his NFL career.  The flag seen in the display below was placed on the glare shield of his aircraft for each of his missions and the helmet is from his final season of his nine-year NFL career in 2000.

The artifacts are currently a part of the Hall's newest traveling exhibit - Pro Football and the American Spirit: The NFL and the U.S. Armed Forces - which can be seen in the Pro Football Today Gallery.
