Jerry Jones Joins 16 Dallas Cowboys in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Sixteen former Dallas Cowboys or front office personnel are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Owner Jerry Jones, No. 16, was voted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2017 in February and will be inducted Aug. 5 in Canton, Ohio.

Jones, who is also president and general manager, bought the Cowboys in 1989 for approximately $140 million. Today, the franchise is worth more than $4 billion, according to Forbes.

He became the first owner in league history to win three Super Bowls in his first seven years of ownership.

“I think it’s fitting that he gets in. And I think it’s deserving that he gets in,” said Gil Brandt, former vice president of player personnel for the Cowboys from 1960 to 1989, who now works for NFL.com. “I think he’s done more to make this league aware that you have to work to progress.”

During Jones’ ownership, six Cowboys players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. They are Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Larry Allen and Charles Haley. He was also the presenter for Irvin, Smith and Allen.

Joining Jones in the Class of 2017 are Kenny Easley, former TCU great LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Davis, Kurt Warner, Jason Taylor and Morten Andersen.

Jones’ wife, Gene Jones, will be his presenter during this year’s Enshrinement ceremony.
